The Old Cape Gets A New Porch

After a long New England winter and with a baby on the way, we decided our next home project had to be the front porch - our primary entrance to the house.

The porch was original to our 1930s home and, unfortunately, hadn't been maintained over the years. It was essentially being held together by layers of paint, bouncing and shaking every time you stepped onto it. Walking down the stairs always felt a little unsettling, like the treads might crumble beneath your feet.

After researching local contractors, we reached out to BURR in Stratford, CT. We loved their portfolio, appreciated their realistic timelines, and from our very first conversation, their communication was exceptional—which, as we're quickly learning as homeowners, is surprisingly rare.

Our biggest priority was safety, but we also wanted the new porch to feel like it had always belonged to the house. We asked them to preserve the original character and charm while rebuilding it with modern craftsmanship and durability.

Rather than recreating the original gray-painted floor, we chose an English Heritage stain, which beautifully complements the crisp white trim and gives the porch a timeless, classic New England feel. The finished result is clean, warm, and exactly how we envisioned it.
